Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum age to join?
You must be 18 years of age. The program is aimed at those between 18 and 30 years old.
Will I be travelling alone?
The program is intended for groups of travellers, however the group you travel with might be independent travellers’ or some might already be friends. Either way, in time during your Borneo adventure you will forge new friendships!
Can I travel with my boyfriend/girlfriend?
Yes, that’s not a problem. However, during certain activities the accommodation is dormitory-style, and sleeping quarters will be strictly separated: one for ladies and another for men.
What should I bring on the trip?
See ‘Packing List’ on the Preparation page!
I don’t speak the language! Can I still communicate with people?
Many locals are able to speak English, but it will be very simple conversational-level, as it is not their first language. The Malay language is actually very easy so make an effort to learn basic phrases, which can be really handy when ordering food or shopping for example!
During all of your activities, there will be English-speaking guides and our own staff representative too.
Do I have to arrange the flight?
The flights are not included in the program, however we can provide assistance to plan your travels so you arrive at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) for the programs’ start date.
Can I travel elsewhere after or before the program start date?
Of course, we will provide you with your full itinerary of Expedition Borneo! so you are fully informed of the first and last day of the program.
What about my personal security while in Borneo?
Sabah is a very safe place to travel when the usual travel precautions are taken into consideration. We only use reputable and trusted partners for all accommodation and any activity not conducted by us directly. However, even with the security measures set, individuals should exhibit a degree of common sense to best avoid problems.
What should I do if I am in an emergency?
Through regularly updated risk assessment we anticipate and take the appropriate measures to prevent accidents from occurring & ensure safety of all program activities. However the very nature of adventure activities contains the potential risk of injury and occasionally this risk is realised. During your welcome briefing we will provide a list of emergency contacts for our leaders and local EMS during your stay in Sabah.
