Pre-Travel Preparation

Travelling to experience new places is exhilarating and exciting, but the stress that can come with travelling can be just as unforgettable !

Prepare yourself for all aspects of travelling to Borneo!

On the physical level:

Some of the activities will require an average level of personal fitness, but for any medical conditions do ask your family doctor for advice. Please take a look at our “Fit to Dive” page to see whether you need a medical check up. If you are fit to dive then you are fit to take part in the other activities too!

Jungle trekking and mountain climbing are the two activities that are incredibly rewarding and quite likely to be out of many peoples’ comfort zones! For example, the Mount Kinabalu will challenge your strength of will during the 99% uphill ascent to Low’s Peak summit at 4095m. Overnight accommodation on the mountain is basic and temperatures are approximately 10 degrees, dropping to around 2 degrees at the summit peak. Jungle trekking the Salt Trails is also very challenging. A 34km trek over 4 mountain ridges, crossing 11 rivers and sleeping overnight on mats in local houses & redundant churches will mentally & physically test most peoples endurance.

On the emotional level:

It may be your first trip so far away from home or you may be a seasoned traveller. Our program is designed for people that really want to experience the best of Sabah, Borneo in a manageable time without it costing you a fortune.

As such, you will meet new people, try different foods, experience different cultures & activities.
Sometimes you will sleep uncomfortably, you will be smelly and tired. Your favourite foods may not be available, you might miss home but what we can guarantee is that your mind will be opened to new opportunities, new ways of living, new ideas and new people. You will learn a great deal about yourself.

We have put together a program that we are sure you will enjoy if you embrace it!

Arrival in Borneo

Once all your pre-travelling preparations successfully go to plan, you will arrive in Borneo and meet us!

We will meet you at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) and directly transfer you to your dormitory style lodge accommodation in Kota Kinabalu City Centre, which is about a 15-minute journey.

Once arriving at your new ‘home-away-from-home’, one of our experienced and friendly expedition leaders will provide you with a ‘Welcome Briefing’, which will include the time and location of the first expedition orientation where you will be thoroughly briefed on your first adventure activity. Once all Expedition Borneo participants have arrived in Sabah we’ll get together for a welcome dinner so everyone can get to know a bit more about one another.

Each activity will be thoroughly briefed at our Kota Kinabalu Times Square Headquarters, and each activity is separated with a day of rest.

During this time you may relax at your accommodation, go to the beach, go shopping at nearby centres and shops, or walk around the city! If you need some help deciding what to do, we have some optional day trips to experience fun activities, such as snorkelling, island hopping and zip lines!
