For the 4th year in a row, we’ve experienced a ‘Seasfire’ at Gaya Island again!

The Seasfire organisation from Mont Kiara International School in Kuala Lumpur is a crew of adventure enthusiasts who specifically visit Sabah and Kota Kinabalu to experience scuba diving in Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park under the supervision of our operations. Schools and universities, such as those students in Seasfire, frequently visit our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre to experience diving for the first time or continue their dive adventure. But also other adventure activities that can only be found in Sabah, Borneo!

Contact our Downbelow Travel Centre for a personalised itinerary to learn SCUBA and other Sabah adventure travels!

Travelling in a large group proves it’s safe to travel together…even safer with Downbelow!

Kath Giles contacted our Downbelow Travel Centre for a day of rest and relaxation for her group of 20 adventurers’ who have toured all over Sabah, Borneo. For the last activity before their next travel destination, our travel experts arranged for the group to explore the Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park on our multi-activity program. This includes a variety of activities: snorkelling, kayaking, jungle trekking, and some preferred to snorkel every session, whereas other participants tried all 3! Safety is always the highest priority, so an experienced PADI guide is always nearby during all in-water activities.

Large groups of adventurers’ from schools and universities, from all the world, visit our Gaya Island beach house for adventure travel to learn more about Sabah, Borneo.

Camps International UK is one of our largest groups (numbering in the hundreds!) and they are also very young (pre-teen ages), which means our operations have a lot of responsibility to supervise their adventure activities. One of their activities is the opportunity to qualify as PADI Open Water Divers, and they also experience other island fun, such as snorkelling, kayaking and jungle trekking too!

At Downbelow Marine and Wildlife Adventures, our team of PADI Instructors couldn’t maintain its reputation for effective and SAFE diver training for large groups, without splitting them into smaller groups!

Schools and universities from all over the world visit our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre facilities to learn more about Sabah, the ‘Land Below the Wind’. Camps International UK are by far our largest groups, and to manage their diver safety our operations ensure every precaution is taken. Because there are so many participants within the groups, during their PADI Open Water Diver course training, they’re split into smaller groups with a maximum of 4 students to 1 PADI Instructor. This ratio is half that of PADI Standards to conduct the course, but through years of experience as professional divers in the Kota Kinabalu TARP area, our conservative ratio has proved very successful. Students receive more time to master their dive skills, which makes them divers with better judgment of diver safety.

No better way for Camps International groups to learn about the environment than getting to know marine life up close in the South China Sea.

The last two groups, ‘Epal’ and ‘Orang Utan’, were really lucky to have witnessed so much marine life when completing one of their adventure activities: the PADI Open Water Diver course! And the best part of it all, is the marine life is in its own natural habitat of the sea! Harmless jellyfish crowded around groups of school students and their Instructors in the shallow waters of the sheltered bay where the young adventurers’ need to complete the performance requirements to qualify in the entry-level course.

Following their skills practise, boat dives are arranged to visit different dive sites to repeat those mastered skills in an open water environment, and it also introduces them to more varied and different marine life.

The objective of their experience is to spark their interest by giving a value to protecting and preserving our environment – simply: to continue enjoying scuba diving, supporting the Project AWARE movement will affect positive change!

Group travel at our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre where Downbelow PADI Instructors welcome Expedition Borneo group C is a regular event our dive operations look forward to!

Expedition Borneo is a 30-day program to include the very best attractions around Kota Kinabalu and Sabah, one of which is a day trip to explore Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park!

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Azhar and PADI IDC Staff Instructor Strike have our adventurers’ familiarise themselves with the general island facilities because they will soon be back for a few nights of camping. They will camp overnight for 5 nights, and learn to scuba dive on the PADI Open Water Diver course during their days. The opportunity to qualify in entry-level scuba diving is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many people, and for many of our past Expedition Borneo participants, they return to Sabah for our highly successful Go PRO internship programs.

Scuba diving leaves such a strong impression on our young adventurers’ that a couple even went on to enrol onto our award winning PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) after completing the PADI Divemaster!

‘Culture vultures’ will adore our paradise in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, for the incredibly rich traditions of the ethnic communities!

Several participants of our Expedition Borneo groups’ this year, still craving for more fun, decide to visit an exciting attraction nearby Kota Kinabalu, which caters to guests with the multi-activity fun that can be found.

To discover the exciting attraction, the group need to be transferred via a maskeshift raft/boat, and once arriving at their destination, there is a long list of activities available for our adventurers’ to try out (and which they did). Some are as follows: blowpipe practise (after a skilled demonstration, of course) with supervision for health and safety, traditional batik painting, body boarding the South China Sea surf along the white sandy beaches of the pristine 8km beach, and lots more! The group of 10 also made some time for relaxing in hammocks that are already set up for use at the beach too!

The activities offer them a glimpse of the rich history of Borneo, and there are other land day trips in and around Kota Kinabalu to experience; for example, the Monsopiad Cultural Village. Even Mount Kinabalu is only a 2-hour drive from the city centre. Not many travel destinations can boast a World Heritage UNESCO designated site so close to their capital state!

For more information on the various programs our Sabah Travel Centre can create, contact our HQ, and discuss a suitable itinerary for a 1-day trip or 1-month for groups of any size!
