And there are still plenty of adventure activities to explore around Sabah for our travelling groups, such as white water rafting on Padas River! Many of our group clients are from schools and universities, because the reputation of safety at our Downbelow operations is stellar, and that’s the most important aspect when organising activities for children and young adults.

At Downbelow Marine and Wildlife Adventures, a very special event took place – Boy Scouts Singapore Troop learn SCUBA for the first time at our Gaya Island beach house!

While learning to scuba dive during the day on our PADI Open Water Diver course, the 12 Boy Scouts enjoyed camping overnight at our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre too. Camping where their many island activities will be conducted means they make the most of their time to complete as many new skills as they can for merit badges (and they completed many!), such as a beach clean with our island staff team of PADI professionals to learn about marine conservation. Some will enjoy snorkelling, as will their 4 Boy Scout leaders (also their adult chaperones on their trip), and everyone will have the chance to experience the worlds’ longest island-to-island zipline!

Most important with group travel is safety, especially when the group participants are young. Contact our experienced Downbelow Travel Centre experts on an itinerary suitable for a group of younger travellers to experience Sabah, Borneo.

The 22 colleagues work together at Xi Shen International Legal Department in Shanghai, and they chose Sabah and Downbelow as their travel destination for their corporate trip. Adventure activities our Sabah Travel Centre experts felt the group would really enjoy the most is island fun at our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre and a day trip to visit Klias River to spot proboscis monkeys and fireflies!

Lots of pre-travel preparation advice through e-mail and phone correspondence gave our group all they needed to know about Sabah, Borneo, before they left China for Kota Kinabalu.

At Downbelow Marine and Wildlife Adventures, our team of PADI Instructors couldn’t maintain its reputation for effective and SAFE diver training for large groups, without splitting them into smaller groups!

Schools and universities from all over the world visit our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre facilities to learn more about Sabah, the ‘Land Below the Wind’. Camps International UK are by far our largest groups, and to manage their diver safety our operations ensure every precaution is taken. Because there are so many participants within the groups, during their PADI Open Water Diver course training, they’re split into smaller groups with a maximum of 4 students to 1 PADI Instructor. This ratio is half that of PADI Standards to conduct the course, but through years of experience as professional divers in the Kota Kinabalu TARP area, our conservative ratio has proved very successful. Students receive more time to master their dive skills, which makes them divers with better judgment of diver safety.

In Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, it’s one of the saddest and ugliest sights when there is rubbish strewn all over such a beautiful paradise as our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre on Gaya Island, TAR marine park, but campers attack marine debris with Downbelow!

For a once-in-a-lifetime summer holiday experience in a 1-month adventure around Borneo, Camps International groups of students travel the exotic island in the South China Sea to learn more about the efforts of protecting and preserving its irreplaceable resource: nature!

From learning to scuba dive on the PADI Open Water Diver course to, snorkelling, kayaking, jungle trekking and beach clean ups, all participants of the 12 groups in the next 10 weeks, gain a much deeper appreciation for the importance of caring for our environment.

Beach clean ups are especially effective, as the physical effort of collecting even what seems a very small amount impresses on the young adventurers’ to contribute their future efforts to correctly dispose litter! It’s especially effective on our groups as they have experienced the beautiful marine environment on SCUBA, and many are also newly qualified divers, which makes them Project AWARE ambassadors!

For Camps International groups, all of our adventure activities are conducted with their safety a top priority, and jungle trekking in Sabah is safe with Downbelow!

Jungle trekking at TAR marine park’s Gaya Island, where our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre is based, is a fantastic experience for the young adventurers’ of group ‘Nanas’ (meaning ‘pineapple’ in Malay) to learn about the terrestrial nature of our local environment. All participants tried scuba diving on our popular PADI Discover Scuba Diving program, which already introduces the novice divers to the importance of protecting and preserving the environment.

Ecotourism attractions are most popular in Sabah, for they encourage environmentally friendly practices, such as the worthy wildlife conservation of Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary and Selingan Turtle Island in Sandakan, east coast Sabah.

Our Sabah Travel Centre specialise in personalising itineraries for our travelling groups of any size to explore different regions of Sabah. Contact our HQ in Kota Kinabalu for more details on our wildlife adventure programs!

Cardiff University are back with Downbelow Marine & Sabah, Borneo for a tropical ecology field trip, and this time with students of the following academic year!

To experience Borneo’s ecology is valuable for students and professors alike. The rich biodiversity found in South East Asia is paradise for both the budding marine biologist and the seasoned teacher; and Borneo lies within the ‘Coral Triangle’!

Many Schools and universities visit our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre to learn the practical skills required of them during their degree courses, which they will then put into practice once their education is complete and they are working in the field. The skills workshops are conducted by resident PADI Course Director Richard Swann and his team of PADI professionals using various specialised equipment for example quadrats, tape measures, fish sizing charts and more …

Changes within the reef over time are witnessed by our team who are always working within the same environment, this makes them Project AWARE & reef ambassadors, and their expertise assists the students to best understand data collected from their underwater surveys.

Go PRO internship candidates completing professional courses, such as the PADI Divemaster or the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) will also benefit when assisting our team of PADI Instructors to organise dive logistics for the students.

Supporting the efforts to protect our local marine biodiversity is why adventure travel groups choose TARP for their unique educational program!

General Operations Manager, Paul Jones, of our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre conducts a welcome briefing for our recent group of international school students who arrive all the way from Dubai.

Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park is the perfect location for receiving a unique perspective on marine conservation, as their island activity is based on familiarising themselves with nature. Not just the natural beauty of it, but also any environmental damage. Fortunately, we can see a positive difference from the effects of various conservation programs conducted by local environmental authorities and other parties! Our own dive operations for example, contribute in the form of our fun ‘Coral For Life’ program!

Participants on groups from schools and universities will return to Sabah once again to experience more of the ecotourism that preserves and protects, such as the conservation projects conducted in Kinabalu National Park – home of the famous Mount Kinabalu!
