For the 4th year in a row, we’ve experienced a ‘Seasfire’ at Gaya Island again!

The Seasfire organisation from Mont Kiara International School in Kuala Lumpur is a crew of adventure enthusiasts who specifically visit Sabah and Kota Kinabalu to experience scuba diving in Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park under the supervision of our operations. Schools and universities, such as those students in Seasfire, frequently visit our PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre to experience diving for the first time or continue their dive adventure. But also other adventure activities that can only be found in Sabah, Borneo!

Contact our Downbelow Travel Centre for a personalised itinerary to learn SCUBA and other Sabah adventure travels!

Sabah’s marine biodiversity is important to the students of Cardiff University who are working towards their tropical ecology degree studies!

A group of 13 students on BSc and MSc Degrees in Zoology, Marine Biology and Ecology from the University of Cardiff, return to our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre for the second year running. They are also accompanied by 2 University staff, as the whole group will be learning to dive on the PADI Open Water Diver course under the supervision of our island staff team of PADI Open Water Scuba Instructors.

Once the 15 have satisfied our team of Instructors, a buoyancy clinic will be conducted for all participating in underwater visual surveys to fine tune their skills. They will be much more confident in their body positioning and breathing to map sections of the reef with as close proximity as possible, without damaging the corals.

Over time, their surveys offer an insight on the health of our local marine environment; for which, we as Project AWARE supporters, find it most valuable to understand what action is needed to protect and preserve our marine environment effectively in future.

Adventurers’ take in the very best attractions of Sabah when they zip through paradise on Expedition Borneo!

In 30 days, extra land day trips can be arranged for any interested participants on our Expedition Borneo program, if they so wish to experience other attractions in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Ziplining, abseiling and wall climbing are activities that our 3rd group of this year have opted for one of their extra day trips to explore more of Kota Kinabalu.

It’s located nearby the Kiulu River, which offers a very relaxing and peaceful atmosphere, not to mention lots of space for the ‘adult jungle gym’.

From the highest point of the exciting contraption, they are able to see the hills and valleys of the Crocker Range, whilst getting some fitness regimen into their holiday too!

Fitness and exercise is so easily overlooked when travelling, but it’s a great idea to do some just to keep immune levels up to avoid any annoying ailments and health issue. There’s nothing worse than being sick and poorly – it takes the enjoyment out of anything! They wouldn’t even want to catch something as simple as a cold, especially before their PADI Open Water Diver course at our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre, which will be the following day after their ziplining fun!

For the fourth visit to Sabah, students from the University of South Wales (USW) will receive scientific dive training at our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre in Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park!

USW students completing their BSc International Wildlife Biology and Natural History degrees visit Kota Kinabalu to study the diverse marine ecology.

In a weeks’ training course, our team of experienced PADI Instructors will dedicate their instruction for the benefit of the students to improve their skills for scientific diving purposes.

The skills and techniques, which are specialised to their data collection needs, includes underwater visual census (UVC) surveys of all fish and benthic communities, line intercept transects and coral reef cover.

We are introducing to their dive training, for the first time ever, underwater video surveys to develop their confidence in both skills in survey techniques, as well as peak performance dive skills to carry out their surveys. They will then analyse their data much more effectively.

For the past groups of USW students, they have witnessed the largest fish in the world – Whale Shark! We’re optimistic that this group will be as lucky, as this is the time of year they migrate through the TAR marine park!

For more information, get in touch with our Sabah Travel Centre, where we can create a personalised program for your group, small or large in number, to experience scientific dive training or similar!

For 1 exciting day, 30 local students from Politeknik Sandakan on the eastern coast of Sabah, visit our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre to learn the value of the marine environment!

Everyone got involved in the PADI Discover Scuba Diving and snorkelling programs to witness the beautiful underwater world to gain a deeper appreciation to protect our delicate coral reefs and the marine life that inhabit.

The participants are studying to enter the tourism industry in their future, and one of their subject modules is marine tourism, for which Sabah is well known.

The group were incredibly lucky to have witnessed a juvenile Whale Shark migrating through the TAR marine park at a dive site nearby to our dive centre! An experience no one could ever forget!

All over Sabah, there are many operators within tourism who conduct their business practices with responsible ecotourism, such as the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabiliation Centre. The tourism industry must act together to make a difference, and continue inspiring the future of our tourism industry, just as we have more than happily done for our Politeknik Sandakan group of students!
