Travelling in a large group proves it’s safe to travel together…even safer with Downbelow!

Kath Giles contacted our Downbelow Travel Centre for a day of rest and relaxation for her group of 20 adventurers’ who have toured all over Sabah, Borneo. For the last activity before their next travel destination, our travel experts arranged for the group to explore the Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park on our multi-activity program. This includes a variety of activities: snorkelling, kayaking, jungle trekking, and some preferred to snorkel every session, whereas other participants tried all 3! Safety is always the highest priority, so an experienced PADI guide is always nearby during all in-water activities.

Supporting the efforts to protect our local marine biodiversity is why adventure travel groups choose TARP for their unique educational program!

General Operations Manager, Paul Jones, of our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre conducts a welcome briefing for our recent group of international school students who arrive all the way from Dubai.

Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park is the perfect location for receiving a unique perspective on marine conservation, as their island activity is based on familiarising themselves with nature. Not just the natural beauty of it, but also any environmental damage. Fortunately, we can see a positive difference from the effects of various conservation programs conducted by local environmental authorities and other parties! Our own dive operations for example, contribute in the form of our fun ‘Coral For Life’ program!

Participants on groups from schools and universities will return to Sabah once again to experience more of the ecotourism that preserves and protects, such as the conservation projects conducted in Kinabalu National Park – home of the famous Mount Kinabalu!

From Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), a total of 20 students are welcomed by Downbelow Managing Director Richard Swann and the island staff team of our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre!

The Tunku Abdul Rahman marine park will be our ‘playground’ for a day, as the university students participate in our PADI Scuba Diver Try Dive program.

To begin their morning, they will focus on completing the skills they need to master, such as regulator recovery and mask clearing. Two of the students are certified divers and will be joining the group to offer support so they pass the skills progress to the open water dive!

One of the members, Awang, is one of our Sabah Travel Centre ex-staff and has completed work experience too. At Downbelow, we offer opportunities for our local community to gain the necessary experience that is so valuable when working in such a fast-paced industry as tourism. Awang, as well as his 19 peers of the UMS group, gain a deeper appreciation for protecting and preserving our marine environment for the future of our tourism industry to thrive!
